BAPTISM (Christening)

Any parent or guardian may apple to have their child baptised at St Marys church.   Baptism's can be booked once the present Vicar has made two visits to the child's home to prepare parents and those wishing to act as God Parents.   Baptisms are held on the second Sunday of each month except September and November when a transfer of date will be made to the first Sunday.
The second Sunday norm may be changed if it clashes with the services held from Palm Sunday to Easter day. Adults may apply to be baptised at any time.   This is particularly relevant for parents and God Parents who have not been baptised and need to be to fulfil their role. If you wish to apply for baptism at St Mary's and you live in another parish then you need assure me that the vicar of the parish you live in has no objection to you approaching us. This service does not attract a fee payment.

MARRIAGE

Every parishioner (someone who lives within the parish boundary of St Mary's) has the right to be married in their parish church, provided there is no legal impediment. As the law stands at present you must prove that you are a resident of the parish in order to qualify. If you live in another parish then things become complicated, but not impossible. It is best to contact the Vicar and arrange for an appointment to study the possibilities open to you. If you are divorced decree absolute and the spouse from the previous marriage is still living then you may apply to be married here subject to a preliminary meeting with the Vicar of St Mary’s. Statutory fees must be paid to the parish for marriage.

FUNERAL SERVICES/BURIALS.

There are no restrictions on applications to hold a Funeral Service here. The grave yard is closed for new graves but there remains room for cremation plots normally dug for two containers of cremated remains. The scattering or strewing of ashes is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN within the boundary of the church yard. Statutory fees must be paid to the parish for the creation of a new plot or the reopening of a grave or plot.

A useful tip! Do not visit the vicarage without making an appointment first.
This way you will avoid delays and a wasted journey.
